Why use a Skills Sprint?

They work brilliantly as a follow-on to previous management development, helping managers apply and embed what they have already learned.

But they can also be used as a targeted intervention around a particular organisational priority, such as:

  • Giving meaningful feedback
  • Tackling underperformance
  • Building coaching capability
  • Delegating effectively
  • Setting clear expectations
  • Having courageous conversations
  • Career development conversations
  • Performance conversations

The content and scenarios are built around your people, your environment and the situations they are actually facing.

So rather than simply knowing what they should do, managers get the chance to practise doing it.

Practise it. Get feedback. Try again. Use it for real.

How a Skills Sprint works

Step 1: Focus

We start by getting really clear about the skill you want to strengthen.

What is happening now? Where is the gap? What needs to be different?

Step 2: Framework

Every Sprint is anchored around one simple, memorable framework.

We want managers to leave with something they can easily recall and use long after the session is over.

Step 3: Practise

Then we put it to work.

Managers practise realistic situations, receive immediate feedback and have the chance to adjust their approach and try again. This is where understanding starts to become capability.

Step 4: Impact

And we don’t stop when the session finishes.

Following every Skills Sprint, we produce an Impact Report looking at the impact each session has had. Because development should make a difference and we want to prove it has.
